Is Pre-owned the way forward?

Let's discuss!

The current cost of living crisis has meant that millions of Brits are turning to second-hand to save money. This includes buying pre-owned holiday and park homes, in a bid to still have a slice of luxury or to make a good investment.

Pre-owned homes come with many benefits. However, you'll want to know the difference between buying new and pre-owned and deciding whether it's for you. Either way, there's no denying that if you're looking to spend the upcoming year in your own holiday heaven, pre-owned may be the way forward!

Pre-owned Pros.

Affordability

Affordability is at the forefront when it comes to buying pre-owned. The lower price point makes it far more accessible which is highly appealing during these unpredictable times. You can often find homes that go for half the price of their original value - though these may need a bit of extra TLC.

Make sure you have a clear understanding of what you need from your home and choose one that will accommodate your needs, not just for the low price tag.

Test The Waters

If you're a first-time buyer looking to enter the lifestyle, Pre-owned homes are definitely a great way to test the waters. Once you find the perfect park, you're in a better position to spend more and find out about new plots or homes becoming available.

More Bang For Your Buck

If you're a savvy shopper, you'll be able to get more bang for your buck by buying second-hand. If you're after bigger and better, you may find it for a cheaper price if it's a second-hand home. The money you save can be used for any maintenance and redecorating you'd like to do!

Better Locations

Location is everything when you buy a Holiday Home. Different areas can add an extra three digits despite it being the exact same home. If you're buying a Leisure Home in a sought-after location such as Cornwall, you'll have to pay a significant amount to buy new. Buying second-hand can reduce these costs, grabbing you the opportunity to own in your dream area.

Pros Of A New Build

Low Maintenance Costs

A big pro to buying new is that it's good from the get-go. No maintenance to deal with beforehand, and no redecorating to do! You'll be able to slip into your next holiday seamlessly.

They're up-to-date

Modern Park Homes come with everything you'd expect from your typical bricks and mortar. Double glazing and central heating are standard and features such as electric fireplaces are common. If it's an up-to-date, fully equipped home you're after, buying new may be for you.

Your specifications

Many parks will sell bespoke home options allowing you to design and tailor the home to your exact needs. This can make for a truly personalized experience.

Condition

The condition is very important to examine on pre-owned homes. Upholstery can be refurbished and curtains can be replaced, but the structural condition is different. Check for any signs of water ingress and dampness which may be indicated by discolouration on wallboards. Check the condition of the decking and steps and take a close look at the condition of the skirting that runs around the edge of the holiday home too.

A used holiday home will usually come with all the amenities currently on the pitch. That’s decking, balustrades, steps and possibly skirting. If you buy a new holiday home, these can be purchased separately racking the cost up more. So buying a used unit that’s complete with all of this is a very attractive option.
